Solicitor (6+ PQE), Criminal Defence and Professional Disciplinary

London
Full-time
Permanent employee

Job description

Excellent opportunity for an experienced criminal defence/professional disciplinary solicitor in a busy litigation boutique ranked by both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners in Farringdon, London.

The successful applicant will undertake criminal defence and professional regulatory/disciplinary work. They will work collaboratively with other members of the department and will report to Nick Brett.  They must have extensive experience in criminal litigation and preferably will have undertaken professional disciplinary/regulatory work.  They should be adept at running their own caseload independently and progressing matters with limited/strategic supervision.

The department works on a privately funded basis only, servicing professionals and HNWIs.  Applicants should have demonstrable and recent experience of working in private practice.  They should also be natural communicators and comfortable advising people from a wide range of backgrounds.

The successful candidate

Applicants will be able to demonstrate achievement at a leading firm, or specialist boutique firm, with a privately funded caseload.  They will have name recognition within the industry and receive regular personal referrals and/or repeat client work.

A genuine enthusiasm for the commercial side of legal practice is key, motivated by the growth of the applicant’s client base, conversion of enquiries and acting in a delicate and pragmatic way when dealing with clients in difficult situations. Further, the applicant will be expected to talk about their commercial understanding of private criminal practice, their financial performance and their continued ability to meet targets.

The ideal applicant will be expected to run cases near-independently and achieve settlements/outcomes which are above the client’s and/or supervisor’s expectations.  This will be achieved with an ability to think creatively about cases and prospective resolutions.  They will also be expected to supervise others, both formally and informally as a leader and role model.

The reputation and workload of the firm has grown considerably in recent years. The ideal applicant will be someone ambitious and creative who will contribute to the firm's development by seeking to engage in marketing and business development opportunities and develop their own profile both during and outside of working hours. The potential for medium to long term rewards for such a candidate are significant.

It is essential that the successful applicant has excellent IT skills, including the advance features of Microsoft Office and prior use of case management systems.

The firm is committed to offering the highest level of service to its clients and the applicant must share this ethos and adhere to the highest professional standards.
